moodle2Whole Semester, Mondays 16-17:30, Room B014
This course builds on English language skills developed in earlier studies, with a focus on the development of strategies for ongoing independent learning. With the help of project management tools will have the opportunity to
1.) create your own personal improvement plan,
2.) design and manage a group project and
3.) investigate your options and plan the next steps in your internationalisation.
In this course, students develop self-confidence in typical situations in an English workplace (e.g. giving short presentations about their projects and taking part in and chairing meetings). Furthermore, they should enhance their sensitivity to different cultural situations. As communication skills have to be developed, the focus will be on interactive teaching methods to give students the chance to improve listening comprehension and speaking performance. The students choose their own projects for the course at the beginning and during the semester.

During the seminar, students will collaborate with peers from different countries/universities and from different academic disciplines to develop a campaign idea for an industry client, focusing on intercultural marketing communication. At the end of the seminar, students will pitch their campaign ideas to the industry client and receive extensive feedback. This process will enable students and lecturers to gain practical experience in working with intercultural teams, managing a project across cultures, and applying marketing communication principles in an intercultural context.

First Half Semester - until 16 May, Tuesdays 11:45 - 13:15 and Thursdays 17:45 - 19:15 in Room B 014

This course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the diverse ideas and perspectives they are likely to encounter when conducting business in the Asian market. Cross-cultural comparisons will be made using examples from various Asian countries, with a particular focus on Turkey, but also Azerbaijan, Georgia, India, and  Bhutan. The course emphasizes the development of students' intercultural competence, enabling them to effectively perceive and navigate cultural differences when interacting with international partners from these Asian markets. The intercultural competence gained in the course is both "culture-specific" and "culture-general," with students practicing culture-specific "crash investigations" into selected Asian countries and contrasting their findings with European countries. The course will also provide students with theoretical insights into Asian working styles, perceptions of time, religions, and education styles, which will be applied in exercises and concrete simulations involving active interaction with participants from these diverse cultural backgrounds in the classroom. Ultimately, the course's insights into Asian cultures and perspectives will help students assess their own cultural backgrounds and provide them with guidance on how to conduct business successfully in Asia.
