Lecturers: Dr. Tamar Kbiladze and Dr. Laurent Borgmann

Time of the course: Wednesdays 11:45-13:15 and Thursdays 14:15-15:45, Room B014

This course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the diverse ideas and perspectives they are likely to encounter when conducting business in the Asian market. Cross-cultural comparisons will be made using examples from various Asian countries, with a particular focus on Georgia. The course emphasizes the development of students' intercultural competence, enabling them to effectively perceive and navigate cultural differences when interacting with international partners from these Asian markets. The intercultural competence gained in the course is both "culture-specific" and "culture-general," with students practicing culture-specific "crash investigations" into selected Asian countries and contrasting their findings with European countries. The course will also provide students with theoretical insights into Asian working styles, perceptions of time, religions, and education styles, which will be applied in exercises and concrete simulations involving active interaction with participants from these diverse cultural backgrounds in the classroom. Ultimately, the course's insights into Asian cultures and perspectives will help students assess their own cultural backgrounds and provide them with guidance on how to conduct business successfully in Asia.
